I’ve wanted an iPhone for a long time, but I was never able to justify it. From the ridiculously over-priced first-gen iPhones that were hacked and sold here in Canada, to the fact that I’ve already got a BlackBerry courtesy of my girlfriend … I’ve never been able to justify the purchase. Now that I have a commute to the branch on a bus, I can kinda find the justification to get the phone plus the accompanying data plan. “It’s just $1 a day,” I keep telling myself. Thank goodness I’ve got all of August to think about this, or else I could see myself rushing to buy something I don’t really need. I don’t want to stop using my BlackBerry either because it was a gift from my girlfriend and I like having real buttons. I’ll see how August goes. If car magazines and an iPod won’t do it for me, then maybe I’ll jump ship to the iPhone. Though I must say, car magazines and music must get really boring for me to justify the premium. |
(actually, I would look back cuz I love the Central City Tower!)
I’m going to branchland! This announcement came out yesterday;
Paolo is the successful candidate for the Newton/Tsawwassen IS position. His last day will be August 1st. Paolo, we wish you all the best as you transition to the Branch World and you will be missed by all at the Contact Centre.
Good Luck

So, with that, I’m leaving my desk at the Contact Centre in Surrey to work out in Newton and Tsaw.
I’m kinda sad to be leaving my current digs. It’s only a few minutes away from home, there’s an extra $0.75/hour here, I’m on floor 22 of a 25 storey building with floor-to-ceiling windows (read: fantastic views), free underground parking, free gym facilities, a food court right downstairs, casual dress code, and I could go on. It’s a really nice place to work. The only thing is that being at a contact centre, it certainly impedes on my ability to move forward in the company.
As an investment advisor, my real habitat should be in the branch where I can meet clients face to face and truly performing an advisor’s role - here at the contact centre, I’m 95% just in a support role for the branch advisors. On a more practical level, my variable compensation can also go up, but that’s as much as I’m willing to say about that ;-).
One last thing was that a few minutes after being announced into branchworld, I got invited to a dinner with all the other cluster investment reps at the Keg on August 6. While I The Keg didn’t meet my expectations last time I went, it was still good in its own right and would’ve been really good if I didn’t have my experience at Gotham to compare it to.
It’s gonna be so so fly! haha. Alas, it’s time to say goodbye to by beloved Contact Centre. I’m gonna miss it!!

Dr. McGillicuddy's Fireball: A phone banker's best friend. (note: I NEVER drink during office hours)
Well, maybe they’re not all putrid. I did spend some time being a healthy person this weekend. On Saturday Meg and I went to Kintaro to have ramen, then we layed out our towels by English Bay to soak up some sun. Later on in the evening, we watched the Vancouver Canadians Game. I wish I bought a hot dog sooner, but the fireworks were really nice.

On Sunday I was faced with a sunny day and not a whole lot available to do. I finally decided after a time that I would go out and walk around the seawall. I parked my car on Cordova and Thurlow and made my way down to the sea walk at Coal Harbour. On my way there, I noticed some signs for bike rentals, and I just went from there.

So that was it! Three hours and $20 later, I was feeling really good and I had plans to have dinner with Meg and her friends. I really wanna go biking again. I hope the weather stays as good as it has been the last few days.

A YouTube member under the name TopGearPwns got shut down two days ago. It hosted many episodes of the BBC show TopGear. For those who don’t know, it’s probably the best show about cars to ever air anywhere in the world. Its hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, are very enthusiastic about cars and it comes out in their British-natured arrogance. I love the way they argue with each other.
Anyways, TopGearPwns had to shut down because it was obviously hosting the episodes of TopGear in contradiction to the BBC’s copyrights. I don’t know where I’m gonna get my fix of TopGear anymore! I wanna know if anything has toppled the Maserati MC12 on their list of fastest road cars around their track. I wanna know what new development there are on The Cool Wall. I wanna know if they’re bold enough to pit a road car against a Jet Plane in a cross-continent race.
I’ll have to wait until a new TopGear source appears. Until theb, I’ll be searching for DVDs on eBay.
